St Kentigern's Parish is an active member of the Guild of St Stephen. There have been altar servers here for the past 100 years. Both boys and girls can serve from the age of 8 years, usually after their first Holy Communion. There is no upper age limit - you can serve until you are 90, if you like! Anyone who is interested in serving on the altar, at whatever age, should contact Fr John - pupils at St Kentigern's School may alternatively contact Mrs O'Donnell.
Servers practise at various times, depending on the particular time in the Church's year - there are more practices in Holy Week, for example, than at any other time during the year. Servers are called upon for Masses throughout the week as well as on Sundays (including Saturday Vigil), for funerals and weddings as well.
Our branch of the Guild enjoys a social life too! The current servers have recently had a trip to the cinema to see the latest "Harry Potter" film and "Lemony Snicket - A Series Of Unfortunate Events", other visits may well be in the pipeline!! Other outings have included ten-pin bowling, and a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
